The International Society Of Forest Resource Economics, (formally SOFEW), is an organization that brings together representatives of industry, consulting, academia, and federal and state agencies to discuss current issues in the economics of forestry, timber markets, timberland investments, and forest products trade.

An annual meeting is held in the Spring with presentations on financial aspects of timber management and utilization, timber supply and demand, international trade, forest policy, law and many other current issues involved in the business of forestry. An electronic newsletter is distributed to keep members up-to-date on the activities of others within the organization.

Resources, Markets, Policies and People: The Broadening Scope of Forest Economics

The International Society of Forest Resource Economics (ISFRE) brings together representatives of industry, consulting, academia, and federal and state agencies to discuss current issues in the economics of forestry, timber markets, management and utilization, timberland investments, law, and forest products trade. The ISFRE 2019 annual meeting will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from May 14-15 at the The Blackwell Inn. The conference will include technical presentation sessions, a student poster session and competition, and an optional field tour.

Call for Papers and Posters

The 2019 ISFRE Annual Conference will feature both oral and poster presentations. Abstracts should be emailed to Sayeed Mehmood at Mehmood.9@osu.edu by March 1, 2019. Please use "ISFRE Abstract" as the email subject. Authors will receive acceptance notification by March 8. Abstracts should have no more than 250 words. The Conference will feature a Student Poster Competition with cash awards. To qualify for the competition, the first author must be a student currently enrolled in an academic program. Posters will be evaluated by a committee consisting of selected conference attendees. Include the following information when submitting an abstract.

  1. Oral or Poster Presentation;
  2. Title;
  3. Authors with titles and affiliations;
  4. Body text (no more than 250 words);
  5. Key words.
