The International Society Of Forest Resource Economics, (formally SOFEW), is an organization that brings together representatives of industry, consulting, academia, and federal and state agencies to discuss current issues in the economics of forestry, timber markets, timberland investments, and forest products trade.

An annual meeting is held in the Spring with presentations on financial aspects of timber management and utilization, timber supply and demand, international trade, forest policy, law and many other current issues involved in the business of forestry. An electronic newsletter is distributed to keep members up-to-date on the activities of others within the organization.

Hotel Researvations

A venue for ISFRE 2017 Annual Conference is Four Points by Sheraton French Quarter Hotel located at 541 Bourbon Street; New Orleans, LA 70130; USA. Block of room of reserved at the conference rate of $99 per room per night from May 28 to June 1, 2017 for a room with two double beds or a room with a king bed. The rooms will also be available at a post-conference rate of $219 per night from June 2 and 3, 2017. The conference group rate will be available till May 1, 2017 or until rooms sell out. Conference attendees interested in a pre-conference or post-conference stay need to first make a reservation at the conference rate and then call the hotel and provide reservation to complete reservation for pre-conference or post-conference stay. Call for Abstracts

ISFRE 2017 Annual Conference will feature both oral and poster presentations. Abstracts should be emailed to Dr. Shaun Tanger at by February 28, 2017. Authors will receive acceptance notification by March 15. Abstract should have a maximum of 250 words, whereas presentation should at minimum involve demonstration of preliminary results. Abstracts describing graduate study plans and planned/future research will not be accepted. However, in a such situation a student is encouraged to submit an abstract for a poster presentation. The abstracts should have following format:

  1. Use 12 point Times New Roman font and 1-inch margins.
  2. First line should indicate whether it is an oral or a poster presentation abstract.
  3. Second line should include a title.
  4. Third line should list authors.
  5. Fourth line should provide authors’ affiliation.
  6. The following lines should include abstract text.
  7. The abstract should describe the following: research purpose and main points, methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations or implications.
  8. Include keywords at the end of abstract.

Student Poster Competition

ISFRE 2017 Annual Conference will feature Best Student Poster Competition with monetary awards of $200 for the 1st place, $100 for the 2nd, and $50 for the 3rd. To qualify for the competition, the first author must be a student currently enrolled in the program. Posters will be evaluated by a committee consisting of selected conference attendees representing academia, industry, and government and non-government organizations and agencies. Details on evaluation criteria will be provided after abstract acceptance notification.
