2010 SOFEW Meeting

The Southern Forest Economics Workers (SOFEW) 2010 annual meeting will be hosted by the Forest Economics and Policy Work Unit, Southern Research Station, USDA Forest Service, and will take place at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina from Monday evening, March 15 to noon on Wednesday, March 17. The theme of the 2010 Workshop is "New Directions for Southern Forests: Carbon, Energy, and Policy." Keynote addresses will be presented by Dr. Brian Murray (Duke University), Dr. Robert Abt (North Carolina State University), and Dr. Alan Lucier (National Council for Air and Stream Improvement).

ABSTRACTS AND POSTERS:
The deadline for submitting abstracts for presented papers and posters is February 19, 2010. Although posters can be submitted by anyone, only posters from students will be eligible for the poster competition. This competition will give prizes of $300 to the first place winner, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. Please submit all abstracts for presented papers and posters to Tom Holmes at tholmes@fs.fed.us.

HOTEL AND TRANSPORTATION:
The Pinehurst Resort has offered SOFEW a group rate of $70 per night (extendable to weekend before and after the meeting) and discounts on golf and at the spa. Reservations should be made by March 1, 2010 by calling1-800-487-4653 (press the “Conference or Conventions Reservations” prompt and refer to the SOFEW meeting.) REGISTRATION:
The general registration fee is $200 per person and registration for students is $75. Online registration.
